SUBJECT: Seeking Public Comment: Proposed Procedures for Receiving, Reviewing, and Ruling on College Partnership Laboratory School Applications

The Board of Education is seeking public comment on its proposed criteria, procedures, and application for college partnership laboratory schools, pursuant to House Bill 1389 and Senate Bill 736 (2010 Session). Section 23-299 B. of the Code of Virginia defines a college partnership laboratory school as "a public, nonsectarian, nonreligious school established by a public institution of higher education that operates a teacher education program approved by the Board of Education." College partnership laboratory schools are public schools established by contract between the governing board of a college partnership laboratory school and the Board of Education. The members of the governing board are selected by the institution of higher education establishing the college partnership laboratory school.

The Board of Education authorized 30 days of public comment on the proposed criteria, procedures, and application at its November 18, 2010, meeting. The Board is expected to review the public comments and take final action on this item at its meeting on January 13, 2011. The proposed criteria, procedures, and application for college partnership laboratory schools are attached.

Please submit your comments by e-mail, U.S. mail, or FAX by December 31, 2010. Send comments to Mrs. Anne D. Wescott, assistant superintendent for policy and communications, by e-mail at Anne.Wescott@doe.virginia.gov; by phone at (804) 225-2403; or by FAX at (804) 225-2524.
