COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
February 11, 2011
TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
In recent years, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has offered a series of training initiatives to encourage junior and senior high school students to consider teaching as a professional career. The training initiatives have been modeled after the South Carolina Teacher Cadet Program.
Seminars for statewide training to implement the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow Program (VTfT) will be conducted during the summer of 2011. The two-day seminar will provide training for teachers newly assigned to offer this course in their school. Update training for the 10th edition Teacher Cadet curriculum will be offered for VTfT instructors who have previously completed two-day curriculum training.

Training is required prior to receiving the curriculum.
Individuals teaching the curriculum must hold a valid collegiate professional or postgraduate professional license; have a minimum of three years of full-time secondary or postsecondary teaching experience; and be assigned to a secondary teaching area. A master's degree is preferred, but not required.
The Office of Career and Technical Education Services is accepting registration forms for the seminars. Registration for 25 participants per session is on a first-come, first-served basis, and all registration forms must be received no later than the application deadline associated with each training session. Please complete and return the attached registration form as indicated.
