TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is proud to sponsor the "Alcohol Has No Place" middle school poster contest. This contest gives students an opportunity to artistically express their thoughts about the dangers of underage drinking, and illustrate the many fun, healthy, alcohol-free activities that can fill their lives. Participants may use crayons, markers, paint (watercolor, oil, acrylic), ink or pencil, and are encouraged to deliver a clear, positive message discouraging underage drinking.
Three prizes will be awarded along with 25 certificates of special recognition. Prizes include an Apple iPad with WiFi (Grand Prize), an Apple iPod Touch (Second Place), and an Apple iPod Nano (Third Place). The winning poster will also be featured on the ABC Web site, and may be used for future brochures, posters, and billboards.
Entries must be postmarked on or before February 25, 2011. For more information, download the "Alcohol Has No Place" poster contest flyer and entry form at http://www.abc.virginia.gov/Education/poster/contest.html, or contact Marisa Harris, ABC education coordinator, via e-mail at education@abc.virginia.gov or by telephone at (804) 213-4467.
