The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Summer Institute for School Nursing to be held at Longwood University, July 10-13, 2011. The mission of the conference is to foster evidence-based practice in the school setting and promote competency in school nursing.
The institute is appropriate for school nurses, school nurse coordinators, and supervisors of health services.
Alma Morgan, M.Ed., educational consultant with the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University, will bring the keynote address, "Strategies and Interventions When Working with Chronically Ill Children and Teens." She will focus on the physical, cognitive, psycho-social, and academic challenges children with chronic illness face and the role of the school nurse in assisting children and their families with these challenges.

Registration for the four day conference is $100 per person and includes training materials, lodging, and meals.
Lodging will be available in dormitories on the Longwood University campus. Please feel free to duplicate the attached conference brochure and registration form and distribute it to anyone who might be interested. Early registration ends May 27, 2011. Participants may register by mailing the completed registration form and payment to Michele Orr, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, 20th Floor, Richmond, VA 23218-2120. All participants must be pre-registered. On-site registration is not available.
