TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
The Virginia Department of Education is conducting a new annual data collection regarding teacher and principal performance evaluation systems as mandated by reporting requirements of the federal State Fiscal Stabilization Fund (SFSF) program. To meet these requirements, a new SSWS data collection, Teacher and Principal Evaluation Collection (TPEC), has been developed to gather division-level information needed to meet the reporting requirements. This collection will be available through the SSWS application on July 22, 2011, and will be due by September 1, 2011.
Information collected to comply with SFSF requirements will include:
The Department of Education is required to collect and report these data to the U.S. Department of Education, and generate reports from the information to post publicly to the Virginia Department of Education’s Web site, by September 30, 2011. The data collection software will not check for spelling or grammar. Because all of this information will be posted publicly as submitted by the division, each division must prepare narrative responses in Word or another word processing document so the text can be checked for grammar and spelling before pasting the responses into the collection. The data collection will produce a summary report that must be verified by the division superintendent and sent to the Department of Education by September 1, 2011. Full directions for the data collection are provided in the SSWS application.
