SUBJECT:  Nominations for the 2012 Virginia Modified Achievement Standards Test (VMAST) Item Review Reading Committees

The Virginia Modified Achievement Standards Test (VMAST) reading assessment will be field-tested in spring 2012 and implemented in Virginia schools beginning in 2012-2013. The VMAST is an alternate assessment designed for students with disabilities identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEIA), who are instructed in grade level content, but are not likely to achieve proficiency in the same time frame as their nondisabled peers. The VMAST will provide eligible students with disabilities access to online assessments in reading and mathematics that include research-based supports identified by Virginia educators.

In preparation for the VMAST reading field test, the Office of Test Administration, Scoring and Reporting is accepting nominations for the 2012 VMAST Item Review Reading Committees. The purpose of the committees is to review reading items (questions) that will be used in the field test. Approximately 12 members will be selected to serve on each of the four committees.

The committee meetings will be conducted January 18-19, 2012, (or if there is inclement weather, January 25-26, 2012), at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center, Glen Allen, Virginia, as follows:

School divisions will be reimbursed for substitute teacher pay at a rate of $75 per day.
All nominees must submit an application through the Web-based Assessment Committee Application Processing System (ACAPS). The Web-based application process requires a professional reference and division-level approval.  Procedures for submitting the application are available at https://p1pe.doe.virginia.gov/acaps/.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education using ACAPS by November 18, 2011.
