SUBJECT:  Provision of Information for Students Regarding the Laws Governing the Prosecution of Juveniles as Adults

Section 22.1-279.4 of the Code of Virginia requires local school boards to provide information, developed by the Office of the Attorney General, to students regarding laws governing the prosecution of juveniles as adults for the commission of certain crimes.

This memo includes an attachment entitled “Laws Regarding the Prosecution of Juveniles as Adults” that is intended for your use in providing the information to your students as required by the statute. Suggested methods of dissemination of this information include public announcements in the schools, written notification to parents, publication in the student conduct manual, and inclusion with other materials provided to parents.
