The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Summer Institute for School Nursing to be held at Longwood University, July 8-11, 2012. The mission of the conference is to foster evidence-based practice in the school setting and promote competency in school nursing.
The institute is appropriate for school nurses, school nurse coordinators, and supervisors of health services.
General session speakers will discuss topics pertinent to health management and the role of the school nurse in Virginia’s public schools, such as student confidentiality, community health assessment, and partnering with public health officials. Special guests from the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI) will share their experiences of living with mental health disorders in a presentation aptly titled, “In Our Own Voice.”

Registration for the four day conference is $100 per person and includes training materials, lodging, and meals. Lodging will be available in dormitories on the Longwood University campus. Please feel free to duplicate the attached conference brochure and registration form and distribute it to anyone who might be interested. Early registration ends May 25, 2012. Participants may register by mailing the completed registration form and payment to Michele Orr, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, 20th Floor, Richmond, VA 23218-2120. All participants must be pre-registered. On-site registration is not available.
