The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to host a statewide Response to Intervention (RtI) Institute this fall. RtI is being implemented in the Commonwealth through the Virginia Tiered System of Supports (VTSS). At this Institute, school division leadership teams will be presented with the tiered intervention approach which improves instructional decision making at the classroom, building, and division level. The RtI Institute is planned for Tuesday, September 25, 2012, and Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the Richmond Hilton Hotel, 12042 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia.
The two days of training will provide sessions to help school leaders align what they currently do with the eight components in the Virginia Tiered System of Supports Benchmarks.
The eight components of VTSS are:
Teams of up to four (central office and school leadership members) are invited to attend the Institute. Possible participants include division superintendents, assistant superintendents, directors of instruction, directors of special education, directors of student services, curriculum leaders, and principals. Presenters for this event include, Dr. Mark Shinn, a national RtI expert from National-Louis University, Dr. Jeffery Smith, superintendent of West Point public schools, and numerous representatives from Virginia school divisions implementing VTSS.
