SUBJECT:  Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is once again partnering with Radio Disney to bring the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge to all elementary students in Virginia.  This free program encourages healthy, active lifestyles with the goal of motivating families to incorporate fitness activities into their daily lives.  Approximately 400 elementary schools and more than 158,000 students in Virginia participated in the challenge last year.

To register please go to www.GETACTIVEGETFIT.com.  Beginning October 1, 2012, and running through November 24, 2012, students throughout Virginia will have the opportunity to “get active and get fit” while competing against other Virginia elementary schools for the chance to win one of twenty five live Radio Disney dance parties at their school.  Schools that register by September 28, 2012, and complete the Challenge, will be entered into a drawing to receive one of five Gym and Outdoor Deluxe Activity Kits valued at $500.  This fun competition is intended to help students build healthy habits by incorporating regular physical activity into their daily lives.

If you have questions, please contact Radio Disney by telephone at (804) 353-7200; or Vanessa Wigand, principal specialist for health, physical, and driver education, Office of Science and Health Education, by e-mail at Vanessa.Wigand@doe.virginia.gov or by telephone at (804) 225-3300.
