SUBJECT:  Teacher Evaluation Fall Institutes

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce the Teacher Evaluation Fall Institutes to be held at three different locations in the Commonwealth during October and November 2012.  These one-day Institutes will provide targeted technical assistance and professional development opportunities to teachers, principals, and assistant principals in the implementation of the Board of Education’s recommended model teacher evaluation system.

The Teacher Evaluation Fall Institutes will provide support to teachers and building administrators in the implementation of the 2011 Guidelines for Uniform Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria for Teachers with specific attention given to Standard 7 - Academic Progress.  The Fall Institutes are designed for teachers, assistant principals, and principals who did not attend a 2012 Teacher Evaluation Summer Institute.  An overview of the Board’s model teacher evaluation system will be provided and will include selected materials from the 2012 Summer Institutes.  School divisions are invited to send a team of five individuals made up of teachers, principals, and assistant principals.  School divisions are encouraged to include team members who work with English language learners and students with disabilities.

Each Institute site will have a maximum of 220 participants.  Registration will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis until all participant spaces are filled.  A waiting list will be maintained for each Institute site, and individuals on the waiting list will be contacted if space becomes available.

Registration – The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage registration.  The registration process can be completed online at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/reg/eval/.  Online registration will close on October 10, 2012, for the Institute held in Williamsburg on October 15, 2012.  Registration for the Institutes held in Roanoke on October 22, 2012, and Fredericksburg on November 13, 2012, will close on October 15, 2012.  A confirmation of registration will be sent via e-mail to registered participants.

Time – A continental breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.  Institutes will begin at 9 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m. 

Institute Materials – Participant materials and an agenda will be provided at each Institute.

Meals - A light continental breakfast and lunch will be provided at each Institute.
 
Lodging - School divisions are encouraged to cover lodging and travel expenses for division participants for the training institutes, as the cost is not assumed by the VDOE.
