The Virginia Board of Education is seeking teacher nominations to fill two unexpired terms on the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure.  The unexpired term for both vacancies is July 2012 to June 2013.

Please note that the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure requires specific categories of representation.  For all advisory committees, the Board of Education seeks to have geographic and racial/ethnic representation among the appointees.

The two current vacancies on the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure are listed below.

  1. Classroom Teacher (Elementary) and
  2. Classroom Teacher (Middle)

Nominations are requested for teacher nominees from Regions 7 and 8.  Priority consideration will be given to representation in these two regions.

Superintendents and other individuals and organizations are invited to recommend nominees to fill these current vacancies.  Persons also are welcome to nominate themselves, if they wish to serve.  Nominee submissions will be reviewed, and a slate of recommended members will be submitted to the Board of Education in November 2012.

Article nine, Section 2, of the Bylaws of the Virginia Board of Education adopted in September 2004, states that advisory committees shall be composed of persons who represent the views and interests of the general public and who are known to be qualified to perform their duties.  All appointments to an advisory committee shall be made by the Board upon the recommendations of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.  Findings and recommendations are provided to the Board of Education in a manner and at a time prescribed by the Board.
