COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
October 19, 2012
TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
This is to inform you that the following information was conveyed by the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of School Improvement to superintendents in divisions with schools rated Accredited with Warning or Provisionally Accredited-Graduation Rate. Attachment A contains the list of schools rated Accredited with Warning or Provisionally Accredited-Graduation Rate.
Schools Accredited with Warning or Provisionally Accredited-Graduation Rate must have an on-site academic review. There are two parts to the on-site Academic Review Process. In part one, the division must assign a school support team leader and school support team members. These individuals will serve on the academic review team to help conduct the on-site academic review in the school’s first year of warning. In part two, the division’s school support team will monitor the school improvement plan for a minimum of three years. An overview of the Academic Review Process for all schools can be found at this Web site: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/school_improvement/academic_reviews/index.shtml.
Verification of Contact Information Forms
Each division support team and each school rated Accredited with Warning or Provisionally Accredited-Graduation Rate must complete a contact information survey that may be accessed using the appropriate link below.
School divisions--complete one survey for the division’s school support team for all schools warned or provisionally accredited in the division.
Schools Not Fully Accredited--complete one survey for each school rated Accredited with Warning or Provisionally Accredited-Graduation Rate
If there are questions about the surveys, please contact Dr. Susan FitzPatrick, grants and program manager, at (804) 225-2897 or by e-mail to Susan.FitzPatrick@doe.virginia.gov.
The Indistar® Web-based planning tool assists school and division improvement teams with assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring progress toward accomplishing school improvement goals based upon identified areas for improvement. Indistar® also provides a reporting system that includes procedures for maintaining and sharing school improvement meeting agendas and minutes. School improvement plans will be developed using Indistar®. A schedule of Indistar® training dates for identified schools is included in Attachment B. Additional information regarding the Indistar® Web-based planning tool may be found at: http://www.indistar.org.
