The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is committed to providing educators and parents with resources to improve mathematics achievement for all students. In support of this priority, the Department will provide a Quantile® Measure for all students taking mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) tests based on the 2009 Mathematics SOL, beginning with the 2012 Fall SOL Test Administration. Quantile measures are reported on the SOL scoring report for mathematics SOL tests in grades 3 through 8, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II.
The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics is a research-based instructional support system developed by MetaMetrics. This system places student mathematical achievement, the curriculum, and teaching materials on the same Quantile scale, allowing teachers to readily determine which mathematical skills and concepts a student is ready to learn and those that will require additional instruction. It matches students with learning resources at their individual developmental level and is supported by free online resources such as the Quantile Teacher Assistant and Math@Home. Both provide teachers and parents a rich collection of instructional resources to support student achievement in mathematics.
An informational site within the VDOE Web site providing information and resources for parents and educators may be found at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/scoring/quantile/index.shtml.
