State seal, Commonwealth of Virginia

COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education

March 8, 2013

TO:  Division Superintendents

FROM:  Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:  Announcing Energy Emphasis in Career and Technical Education (CTE)

The Virginia Department of Education in collaboration with the CTE Resource Center has researched energy concepts and has reviewed how energy is addressed throughout Virginia's CTE courses.  To provide greater emphasis on energy and its importance to the Commonwealth’s current and future work force needs, additional energy concepts have now been infused in all high school CTE courses.  Also, within selected courses such as Electricity, Electronics Systems, Electronics Technology, and Energy and Power, specific energy-related content has been incorporated.

The updated curriculum frameworks are now available for planning and implementation and may be accessed in the Virginia's Educational Resource System Online (VERSO).  The CTE administrators will be notified of this information under a separate cover.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Anne Rowe, coordinator, curriculum and instruction, Office of Career and Technical Education Services, at CTE@doe.virginia.gov or by telephone at 804-225-2051.
