The 29th Annual Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Project (YADAPP) Summer Leadership Conference will be July 15-19, 2013 at Longwood University. The YADAPP is a team-based summer leadership conference empowering teens to keep their schools and communities alcohol and drug free and to prevent violence. Students with common interests and ideals meet, connect and bond in a week full of fun activities and leadership training.
The Strategies to Act Now (STAN) Plan is the focal point of YADAPP. Students are expected to learn from the topical workshops, forums and speakers, and develop action plans that promote substance abuse and/or violence prevention efforts within their own schools and/or communities. At the end of the conference, many of the teams are selected to receive MINI-GRANTS from the Wheeler Award to help with the implementation of their STAN Plans.
High schools are encouraged to send a team of four students and one adult. The registration fee for each team is $300. Teams must register and pay for the conference by June 21, 2013. Conference information and registration forms may be found at www.YADAPP.com. Attached is a letter from Governor Robert F. McDonnell sent to high school principals encouraging them to send a team to YADAPP.
