TO:  Division Superintendents

FROM:  Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:  Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) Workshops to Improve Mathematics and Language Arts Standards of Learning (SOL) Achievement

In anticipation of assistance that school divisions may need to improve Mathematics and Language Arts SOL Achievement, VASS is offering several workshops this fall, that focus on the increased rigor of the standards and assessments, changes in test formats, and instructional strategies that teachers can use to help their students' performances in the classroom as well as on the tests.  Vertical teams of teachers and administrators in grades K-5 and 6-12 are encouraged to attend.  The Mathematics SOL workshops are designed to complement and not duplicate the DOE K-12 Mathematics SOL Institutes, which are train-the-trainer formats.

Please share this e-mail and link to the VASS Web site http://www.vassonline.org/ with your Mathematics and Language Arts Coordinators, principals and teachers.   Interested participants can scroll down the vertical column on the left-hand side to find registration and detailed information under the heading Dan Mulligan Workshops on the following workshops:
