The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the 2014 School of the Future Design Competition. This annual opportunity, open to middle school students, challenges student teams to design their schools to enhance learning, conserve resources, be environmentally responsive and engage the surrounding community.
Celebrating our nation's schools and reinforcing the connection between school facilities and student learning, the School of the Future Design Competition is supported by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, American Institute of Architects and over 20 other organizations.
School of the Future Design Competition is a time when schools and school divisions may engage in activities that focus various local stakeholders on the role the school building plays in the educational process and in the current and future vitality of their communities. Each community values its schools in a manner unique to its local educational needs and curriculum focus. The competition reinforces local schools as sustainable spaces for lifelong learning.
