The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce planning grants in the amount of $5,000 each for establishment of new Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academies during school year 2013-2014. Upon approval by the Board of Education of the academy application, the grant award will be issued to the school division or regional career and technical education center. The planning grants are provided from state funds and must be expended by June 6, 2014.
The Governor’s STEM Academies offer students a deeper understanding of STEM career pathways and build interest in STEM-related careers by making mathematics and science content more relevant to students. Providing STEM-related educational programs and experiences will contribute significantly to Virginia’s work force needs today and in the future. For more detailed information, please review the Establishing a Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy Guidance Document and complete the Governor’s STEM Academy Intent to Submit a Proposal 2013-2014.
