FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
This memorandum provides information regarding the 2014 session of the Virginia General Assembly. The General Assembly will convene on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, and is anticipated to adjourn on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The Division of Policy and Communications will keep you apprised of proposed legislation of interest to school superintendents and division personnel through the posting of legislative tracking reports for bills and resolutions.
The legislative reports for the 2014 General Assembly will be posted twice weekly on the Department of Education’s Web site at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/boe/legislation/ beginning January 14, 2014. These reports will reflect the status of education-related legislation tracked by the Department of Education. The history of any bill or resolution, all amendments, and the text of the legislation will be available by clicking on the bill or resolution number in the Legislative Tracking Reports.
At the conclusion of the 2014 General Assembly, final tracking reports will be posted in the same location on our Web site. These reports will reflect the final action on education-related legislation tracked by the Department of Education. The history of any bill or resolution, all amendments, and the text of the final version will still be available by clicking on the bill or resolution number in the Final Legislative Tracking Reports. Additionally, we will issue a Superintendent’s Memorandum summarizing the bills and any actions that may or must be taken by local school boards. Later, we will issue a separate Superintendent’s Memorandum outlining any bills that amended the Standards of Quality and provide a copy of the revised standards for 2014.
I hope this information will assist you in following bills of interest during the 2014 General Assembly Session. Please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Policy and Communications, by telephone at (804) 225-2403, or by electronic mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, if you need additional information.
