SUBJECT:  Announcing Counseling for Careers: The New Paradigm Workshop

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), in partnership with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), is offering a workshop for school counselors and career and technical education (CTE) instructional supervisors.  The “Counseling for Careers:  The New Paradigm” workshop will assist teams in examining comprehensive career development practices including graduation requirements, academic and career planning, and aligning school practices with standards and student career goals. Beginning with students entering ninth grade for the first time in 2013-2014, a student must earn a board-approved career and technical education credential to graduate with a Standard Diploma. In depth information and resources will be provided to participants to assist students in meeting the industry credentialing requirement.

School divisions may send a team up to four, consisting of a division-level school counseling leader, high school counselor, middle school counselor, and a CTE instructional supervisor.  The one-day workshop (9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) will be offered in two locations as follows:

The VDOE will provide continental breakfast, lunch, and workshop materials.  Participants are responsible for travel expenses and lodging, if needed.  School division’s Perkins funds are allowable for this expenditure.

Please designate a team leader to coordinate registration for the division.  The online registration link is available at http://www.logicdepot.com/surveys/run/start.cfm?skey=S2HX3-GS63X.  More information will be provided to the team leader upon receipt of registration.
