COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
February 14, 2014
TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction
In August 2013, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) sent a letter announcing new regulations proposed to be in effect for the 2013-14 Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC). If your division did not receive the letter, please contact OCR via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The CRDC is a mandatory report collected directly by OCR and not through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The 2013-14 CRDC is proposed as a universal collection in which every school division and school in the nation will be required to participate. As in years past, VDOE can assist divisions and public regional centers with the CRDC by including CRDC information and announcements in mailings and facilitating conference calls with OCR to answer questions that may arise.
Please check the OCR Web site: http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/data.html?src=rt to stay abreast of new developments.
If you need help from VDOE regarding the CRDC, please contact Irma Thomas, team lead for special projects, via e-mail at Irma.Thomas@doe.virginia.gov or telephone (804) 786-5970.
