The Office of Digital Innovations and Outreach has released the astroimaging iBook, Say “Cheese,” Moon!: An Introduction to Astroimaging in the iBooks Store. It is available at https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/say-cheese-moon!-introduction/id858771849?mt=13 and complements the virtual Astronomy course released on January 13 which can be accessed at https://itunes.apple.com/us/course/astronomy/id795942897. This iBook contains 122 pages of content, rich media, and interactives and provides information on topics such as light and optics, telescopes, the history of astronomy, cameras and lenses, imaging techniques, and basic image processing. In addition, it focuses on digital imaging with the Share the Skies Internet telescope. The Share the Skies program, launched in 2008, allows Virginia students and teachers to access and control research-grade telescopes to explore Australia’s night skies via the Internet. Say “Cheese,” Moon!: An Introduction to Astroimaging contains instructions for accessing and imaging with this telescope, allowing students to take real-time night sky images during the school day.
