COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
June 6, 2014
TO: Division Superintendents
FROM: Steven R. Staples, Superintendent of Public Instruction
The Department of Education is again offering an additional option for school divisions that want to offer the Economics and Personal Finance online course previously announced in Superintendent’s Memo No. 068-12. School divisions may choose to facilitate the course with a locally-assigned teacher within Virtual Virginia’s learning management system at no cost. Training for division teachers will be provided August 4 and 5 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Williamsburg. Participating teachers should have experience teaching in an online or blended learning environment. This course is aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning and, if offered as a virtual or blended course, fulfills the one-credit course requirement in Economics and Personal Finance and the graduation requirement for a virtual course experience.
The Economics and Personal Finance online course is also available at no cost to all Virginia public schools to host within their own compatible learning management system. Furthermore, school divisions may enroll students in the course via Virtual Virginia. Additional sections are open, but seats are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
For additional information or to register for training, please contact Jane James, instructional supervisor for Virtual Virginia, at (757) 470-4428 or via e-mail at email@example.com.SRS/TM/jj
