The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), in collaboration with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), is pleased to offer two workshops, Counseling for Careers, as follows:
April 11 – Powhatan County Public Schools, Powhatan High School, 1800 Jude’s Ferry Road, Powhatan, Virginia 23139
April 13 – Roanoke County Public Schools Administrative Offices, 5937 Cove Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019
The workshops will focus on the implementation of teacher advisement teams which are designed to promote relationship building, self-awareness, interest identification, academic support, and education and career exploration for every student. The workshops are targeting school teams consisting of up to five including an administrator, school counselor, career and technical educator(s), and academic teacher(s). School teams will analyze various curriculum frameworks and topics, including meaningful implementation of Academic and Career Plans, as they develop an Advisement Action Plan and a timeline for implementing the advisement team.
Registration is open and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The VDOE will provide the trainer, workshop resources, and lunch. There is no registration fee. Additional travel expenses are the responsibility of the participants. This is an allowable expenditure of Perkins funds.
