SUBJECT: Public Comment Period and Public Hearings on the Proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning and Proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework

The Virginia Board of Education is seeking comments from the general public on the proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning and proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework

The proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning identify academic content for essential components of the mathematics curriculum at different grade levels for Virginia’s public schools.  The proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework, a companion document to the proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning, amplifies the standards and further defines the content knowledge, skills, and understandings that are measured by the Standards of Learning assessments.  The proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning and proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework can be accessed on the Virginia Department of Education’s Mathematics Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework Review Web site.

Public comment regarding the proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning and proposed 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework may be offered through public comment submitted via e-mail to mathematics@doe.virginia.gov no later than April 25, 2016 or by speaking at one of two public hearings.  Each public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 6 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board of Education.  The public hearings will be held at the following locations:
