The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to host a technical assistance academy for federal program coordinators and other key instructional staff supporting the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) programs noted below.
|Title I, Part A:||Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged;|
|Title I, Part C:||Education of Migratory Children;|
|Title I, Part D:||Neglected, Delinquent, or At-risk;|
|Title II, Part A:||Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting; and|
|Title III, Part A:||English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement.|
The Academy will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Williamsburg, Virginia beginning on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, with an 8 a.m. opening session and concluding at noon on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Presenters will provide updates on the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), ESEA programs and program applications, federal program monitoring, administrative practices, fiscal issues, equitable services for private schools, and best practices.
A Pre-academy will be held for coordinators of Title I, Part A, Title II, Part A, and Title III, Part A, programs with three or fewer years of experience. Pre-academy sessions will explore in-depth the fundamentals of the title programs. The Pre-academy will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 1 to 4:15 p.m., followed by a networking dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage the registration, make hotel reservations, and provide confirmation. Participants requiring lodging must register no later than Monday, July 11, 2016. Participants not requiring lodging must register no later than Monday, July 25, 2016. Lodging will be master billed on August 2 and 3 for Academy participants traveling a distance of 50 miles or more one way to Williamsburg. For Pre-academy participants traveling 200 miles or more one way, lodging will be master billed for August 1. To register, please use the following link: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/vca/index.html.
Two breakfasts, refreshment breaks, and a lunch will be provided at the Academy. For the Pre-academy, a refreshment break and dinner will be provided. Mileage and meals not provided may be charged to the respective local federal program in accordance with state travel guidelines.
