Professional Development for Dental Careers
The Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and the Virginia Board of Dentistry (VBOD), will conduct professional development for Dental Careers on Monday, July 17, 2017, from 8 a.m-4 p.m. at The Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg, Virginia. All dental program directors and instructors of secondary education, community college, and private school programs, including clinical and substitute instructors, are encouraged to attend.
The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry will provide the morning workshop from 9 a.m.-noon, conducted by Lori Turner, Director, Dental Auxiliary Utilization Clinical Rotation. During the afternoon workshop, from 1-4 p.m., the VBOD will review regulatory changes. Information will be provided regarding Dental Assisting National Board requirements for curriculum, instructor requirements, certifications, examinations, transcript documentation, and regulations.
There is no registration fee; however, online preregistration is required and must be completed by June 15, 2017. Participants are responsible for all travel-related expenses and lodging, if needed. For public high school program directors and instructors, this is an allowable expenditure of federal Perkins funds as long as it is included in the approved local career and technical education plan.
