Virginia’s statewide conference for elementary school principals, assistant principals and aspiring administrators is the VAESP Annual Conference. Each year VAESP in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has created a professional development opportunity to enhance the leadership skills of school administrators and increase understanding of current educational issues across the Commonwealth. This year’s conference will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge and Convention Center, 549 E. Rochambeau Dr., Williamsburg, VA 23188. All principals, assistant principals, aspiring administrators, and central office staff are invited to attend.
The Theme for this year’s conference is “Educational Leaders: Pioneers, Rebels and Renegades.” To be successful in today’s environment, educational leaders must be willing to step beyond the traditional in their thinking to engage both students and staff successfully. This theme is prevalent in the various offerings throughout the conference. In addition to learning from keynote speakers, including Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, and Dr. Earl Franks, Executive Director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, attendees will benefit from their interactions with each other through an Edcamp led by noted speaker and author, Jimmy Casas. The VDOE will be an integral part of the event with insights, updates and state mandates across the spectrum in both breakout sessions and table top discussions.
