Biography: Isis M. Castro
Isis M. Castro of Alexandria was appointed to the Board of Education in January 2004 by Governor Mark R. Warner and reappointed by Governor Timothy M. Kaine in February 2008. Mrs. Castro is a co-sponsor of the board's Student Advisory Committee.
Mrs. Castro served on the Fairfax County School Board from January 2000 to December 2003, including one term as chairman and one term as vice chairman. She was the first Latina elected to a school board in the commonwealth and also is the first Latina appointed to the Board of Education.
Mrs. Castro holds a bachelor's degree from City College of New York and a master's degree from New York University.
