Biography: Ella P. Ward
Ella P. Ward of Chesapeake was appointed to the board in January 2003 by Governor Mark R. Warner and reappointed by Governor Timothy M. Kaine in January 2007. She has served as vice president of the board since February 2006.
Dr. Ward retired after serving in Portsmouth as an assistant principal at Waters Middle School and Cradock Middle School and as an English and journalism teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Dr. Ward served on the Chesapeake School Board for six years and is currently on city council.
Dr. Ward holds a bachelor’s in English and a master’s degree in mass communications from Norfolk State University. She earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Old Dominion University and received a doctorate in educational administration from Virginia Tech.
