Data Quality
How many students was your division not able to account for, in your On-Time Graduation Rate Report this year? Are you looking for a way to get all of your division stakeholders, from the teachers and secretaries, on up to the superintendent, involved and invested in making your data the best it can be? Virginia's Investing in Data Quality (IDQ) is a statewide effort to recognize and reinforce each and every role involved in your division's data collection and final presentation. This program will focus on upgrading and documenting the expertise involved in delivering our mantra, "Perfect Data Every Time and All the Time."

IDQ Program –
"Investing in Data Quality"
The Investing in Data Quality program (IDQ) provides training, information, support and resources to local school division personnel involved with data and data quality. The program provides a way for data managers and data coordinators to register and access curriculum leading to earning up to 35 hours of staff development credits, certification and recognition.
Background
The IDQ program evolved from a need identified and expressed by a number of school division’s data managers to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), asking to have the issue addressed in the upcoming federal grant application. In July 2008, the IDQ development team was formed and comprised of data managers from different divisions and several members from the VDOE Educational Applications group.
Mission
The purpose of the IDQ development team was to outline the scope and administration of the program. The group recognized that the full rollout of the program will take place over several years, with the strongest focus on the data manager, but will also introduce data quality awareness throughout the state and school divisions.
The IDQ development team leads the planning and development of the curriculum content and materials, and it assists with the development and enforcement policies and procedures as well as the coordination and presentation of rewards and recognitions.
The purpose of the IDQ program is:
- To recognize the work that is already being accomplished in the divisions, with regard to quality data and stewardship
- To elevate and highlight these important data-related school roles and their specific skill sets
- To aid school personnel in developing skills and provide tools to improve data quality
- To reduce the negative effects of missing and inaccurate data and enhance education through the use of high quality data
- To add overall value to the individual and to his/her organization(s)
