The Financial Literacy Challenge |
High school teachers are invited to participate in the Financial Literacy Challenge, planned
for late April 2008. An initiative of the President’s Advisory Council on
Financial Literacy, this recognition program will use a voluntary test to
determine high levels of financial literacy among
The
Financial Literacy Challenge will be offered online, and will involve 35
questions on basic personal finance. The Challenge should take the average student
40 to 45 minutes to complete. In most
instances, a computer lab will be required.
Students
scoring above the 75th percentile of national scores will be
eligible for recognition from the President’s Advisory Council on Financial
Literacy. Students compete individually for recognition. Beginning in late April 2008, the Financial
Literacy Challenge will be available online for approximately three weeks. Teachers may choose any day within the
challenge window to have students participate. Participation is free.
High school teachers
may register for the official distribution list by sending an e-mail to flc@do.treas.gov and including “Interest in Financial
Literacy Challenge” in the subject line of the e-mail. In the coming weeks, registered participants
will receive additional information about a forthcoming Web site which will
feature frequently asked questions, a user guide for teachers, and a technical
validation test to ensure the Financial Literacy Challenge will run
successfully on your computers.
The
Financial Literacy Challenge will be administered by participating teachers
online. In very limited circumstances,
special arrangements may be made for students without Internet access. For more information, contact Deborah Kiger
