Implementing
the New Race/Ethnicity Standards |
On October
19, 2007, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) published Final Guidance on the
new revised standards for the collection of data on race and ethnicity in the
Federal Register (72 Fed. Reg. 59267). In August 2008,
The new race and ethnicity categories allow multiracial individuals full recognition of their heritage. Individuals who are Hispanic can more accurately describe themselves.
The
new race and ethnicity categories will impact school divisions.
The
Virginia Department of Education is in the process of preparing for implementation
of the new race and ethnicity standards.
Future superintendent’s memos will keep you up-to-date on the process.
