Goals – High Schools That Work
- Increase to 85 percent the percentage of high school students who meet the HSTW reading, mathematics, and science performance goals on a National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)-referenced exam. The Southern Regional Education Board has established performance goals based on the HSTW assessment. On a scale from 0 to 500, the minimum goals are scores of 279 in reading, 297 in mathematics, and 299 in science.
- Increase the percentage of all high school students who perform at the proficient level to at least 50 percent in reading, mathematics, and science, as measured by the NAEP-referenced HSTW Assessment. The minimum score for proficiency is 288 in reading, 328 in mathematics, and 326 in science.
- Increase to 85 percent the percentage of high school graduates who complete college-preparatory courses in mathematics, science, English/language arts, and social studies and have a concentration in a career/technical, mathematics/science, and/or humanities area.
- Increase to 90 percent the percentage of high school students who enter grade nine and complete high school four years later.
- Advance state and local policies and leadership initiatives that sustain a continuous school improvement effort.
- Have all students leave high school with postsecondary credit or having met standards for postsecondary studies to avoid remedial courses.
- Work in the middle grades to increase annually the percentage of students entering high school prepared to succeed in college-preparatory courses.
Goals – Making Middle Grades Work
- Increase to 85 percent the percentage of students who meet the MMGW reading, mathematics, and science performance goals on the Middle Grades Assessment, a NAEP-referenced exam. The Southern Regional Education Board has established performance goals based on the MMGW assessment. On a scale from 0 to 300, the minimum goals are scores of 160 in reading, 160 in mathematics, and 161 in science.
- Increase the percentage of all students who perform at the Proficient level to at least 50 percent in reading, mathematics, and science, as measured by the Middle Grades Assessment. The minimum score for proficiency is 172 in reading, 178 in mathematics, and 175 in science.
- Increase annually the percentage of middle grades students entering high school prepared to succeed in college preparatory courses.
- Increase to 90 percent the percentage of middle grades students who transition into grade nine and complete high school four years later.
- Reduce the failure rate in grade nine by ensuring middle grades students receive the preparation they need to succeed in high school courses such as Algebra I or beyond and college-preparatory English 9.
- Advance state and local policies and leadership initiatives that sustain a continuous school improvement effort.
