School Division Efficiency Reviews

The Commonwealth of Virginia began the school division efficiency review program in 2004. The program involves contracting with outside education experts to perform efficiency reviews for school divisions within the Commonwealth. School division participation is on a voluntary basis.

The objective is to identify ways in which school divisions can realize cost savings in non-instructional areas in order to redirect those funds towards classroom activities. The results of the reviews provide guidance in determining whether educational dollars are being utilized to the fullest extent possible. The findings include an evaluation of the efficiency of various offices and operations within a school division, recommendations and projected costs and/or savings associated with the recommendations. The Virginia Department of Planning and Budget (Virginia School Efficiency Review Program) is responsible for conducting efficiency reviews of individual school divisions.
