Fall Membership
Each year, VDOE collects statistics on the number of students enrolled in public school on September 30th. Student counts are reported by grade assignment and ethnicity.Virginia Triennial School Census
Action by the 2010 General Assembly eliminated the triennial census of all school-age persons residing in a school division. The census was once used as the basis for distributing state sales revenues and use tax proceeds to school divisions as a part of the Basic Aid funding for public education.The triennial census was replaced with an annual estimate of the school-age population prepared by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.
Special Education Child Count
School divisions are required to report an unduplicated count of students with disabilities receiving special education on December 1 or the closest school day to December 1 for state funding and federal reporting under provisions the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B.Home Schooled Students & Religious Exemptions
School divisions report the number of students who have obtained an excuse from school attendance by reason of bona fide religious training or belief as well as the number of students whose parents have notified the division superintendent – by August 15 – of their intention to provide home instruction.
