National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as The Nation’s Report Card, is a national measure of student achievement that is taken by samplings of students in each state and nationwide. Tests in reading and mathematics are administered every two years and science tests are administered every four years. NAEP provides a means of comparing the progress of states in raising student achievement.
Participation of Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners
All students in a school’s tested grade or age group are included in the NAEP sampling frame for selection. The Virginia Department of Education expects that most students with disabilities and Limited English Proficient (LEP) students will be included in NAEP testing. All students who participate in the regular Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments, Virginia Grade Level Alternative (VGLA), Virginia Substitute Evaluation Program (VSEP), or SOL Plain English Mathematics test should participate in NAEP using NAEP accommodations as appropriate.
