On May 22, 2014, the Board of Education approved the revised Foreign Language Standards of Learning. See below for the revised documents.
Although there is no applicable SOL test associated with foreign language instruction, the SOLs are intended to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be able to interact, within reasonable limits, with users of the language and understand their culture.

- Teaching English, and History and Social Science Through Foreign Language
VDOE has completed an initiative to develop foreign language instructional activities with connections to English and/or history and social science. These instructional activities are sample lessons developed by foreign language teachers throughout the commonwealth and are intended to serve as models for various instructional strategies.
