Science
School divisions are expected to begin implementation of the 2010 Science Standards of Learning by September 2011 and to fully implement the 2010 Science Standards of Learning in the 2012-2013 academic year. In spring 2012, items measuring new content in the 2010 Science Standards of Learning will be field tested. In spring 2013, all items on the Science Standards of Learning assessments will be based on the 2010 Science Standards of Learning.
- 2010 Science – Full implementation of the 2010 Science Standards of Learning is anticipated during the 2012-2013 school year.
Science Standards of Learning – Adopted 2003
- The Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework comprise the science content that teachers in Virginia are expected to teach and students are expected to learn.
- The Enhanced Scope and Sequence Guide is used by teachers to align instruction with the standards and cover the essential understandings, knowledge and skills found in the curriculum framework.
- Test blueprints provide information on how SOL assessments are constructed.
- Released tests are SOL assessments recently administered in the commonwealth’s public schools.

Students are permitted to use a Periodic Table of Elements on the EOC Chemistry test. These test manipulatives are included with your secure shipments for paper/pencil testing. - Science Standards of Learning Instruction and Assessment Transition Schedule – This superintendent's memo includes an attachment that outlines the testing schedule in regard to the revised English and Science SOL.
- Virginia Electronic Practice Assessment Tool (ePAT) – The resources here are intended to support and enhance student preparation for the Standards of Learning Assessment. These tutorials provide direct exposure to the format and structure of the questions, and enable users to receive direct feedback for each item.
- VGLA Preparation of Evidence Optional Forms – The forms on this page may be used to assist with the development of a collection of evidence (COE) that is submitted as a Virginia Grade Level Alternative (VGLA) assessment. Print the directions and follow the procedures that have been outlined.
