Statement on Behalf of State Superintendent Regarding USED Announcement on Interagency Partnerships

Post Date:11/20/2025 9:21 AM

“The recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Education underscores the importance of partnerships that actually help schools solve real problems. We welcome any effort that strengthens academic outcomes, expand career-ready pathways, and supports parents as full partners in their child’s education.

We are encouraged that the new partnerships and federal initiatives will respect state authority, avoid unnecessary bureaucracy, and empower local educators without new mandates and compliance hurdles. Virginians know how to manage funding from the federal government, and we welcome more control and decision-making being returned to the states.

In our Commonwealth, we are focused on measurable results including stronger reading and math achievement, expanded workforce and military-readiness pipelines, and more options for families. We have always worked closely with multiple federal agencies and look forward to engaging constructively with them where these partnerships align with those goals, and we will always prioritize what works best for our students, teachers, and communities.” - Superintendent of Public Instruction Emily Anne Gullickson.
