In 2026, the General Assembly passed HB 913, which requires the Virginia Department of Education to, among other things, restore the EdEquityVA website and many of its affiliated resources. This page fulfills that legislative mandate.

Overview

During the years of 2019-2022, VDOE implemented the Virginia is for Learners and EdEquityVA initiatives to draw awareness towards inequities that affected students in Virginia’s public schools and to prepare students for the future beyond graduation.

VDOE was permitted by the Virginia Tourism Corporation to utilize the “Virginia is for Lovers” brand and create an adaptation that highlighted support for Virginia’s students called “Virginia is for Learners” and was the brand for a variety of strategic initiatives for the agency during those years.

One of those initiatives was EdEquityVA, and focused on addressing educational inequities based on race, gender, locations, socioeconomic status, disabilities, and native languages.

Both initiatives lived on the Virginia is for Learners website and provided resources that were targeted for local school division leaders and teachers to implement in the schools.
