This memorandum contains information related to the following topics:
The Virginia Board of Education appoints members to the Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted. The committee provides the board and the Superintendent of Public Instruction with advice and recommendations regarding educational services for gifted students in public schools. Nominees are currently being sought for the three-year term that will begin in September 2002 and end in June 2005. Such nominations are due by November 1, 2001, and they may be e-mailed to Dr. Barbara McGonagill at (mailto:bmcgonag@pen.k12.va.us). Information related to gifted education in Virginia can be found on the Department of Education’s website:
http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/Gifted/gifted.htm. This site includes a variety of documents and forms related to annual reports and local plans for gifted education as well as information regarding events of interest to gifted education coordinators and teachers.
