First: The Research Building Blocks for Teaching Children to Read (September
2001), a 58 page booklet, intended for teachers, summarizes what researchers
have discovered about how to teach children to read successfully. The National Reading Panel findings and
suggested implications for classroom instruction are included.

First: Helping Your Child Learn to Read: A Parent Guide (September 2001), a
four-panel brochure, designed for parents of young children, describes early literacy
activities parents can do at home to help children learn to read
successfully. The brochure is also
based on the findings of the National Reading Panel.
