Virginia
students have an opportunity to participate in the sixth annual celebration of
Constitution Day. On September 17, 2002, at 4 p.m. EST, the moment the Founding
Fathers adjourned the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, students
around the nation will recite the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
Students are encouraged to dress in red, white, and blue. Constitution Day,
Inc. sponsors this annual event.
Former President George H. W. Bush led the schools in this activity in 2000 and Anthony M. Kennedy, Justice of the United States Supreme Court, led this activity in 2001. President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney have been invited to lead the activity this year.
If your school would like to participate, please contact Louise Leigh at Constitution Day, Inc., (626) 443-6223 or e-mail at ll@constitutionday.com. Further information can be obtained at http://www.constitutionday.com.
