Commonwealth
of Virginia Campaign (CVC) Visual Arts Contest for Sixth-, Seventh-, and
Eighth-Grade Students |
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC),
the annual giving campaign for state employees, has requested that school
divisions provide sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade classes with the
opportunity to participate in the CVC Visual Arts Contest. The 2004 contest is sponsored by Independent
Charities of America, Americas Charities, and Community Health Charities of
Virginia. The CVC plans to showcase the
winning artwork statewide in posters, a video, the CVC website, and a
directory. Also, the top ten selected
entries will be exhibited across the commonwealth. The theme for the campaign is Lend A Helping Hand.
Students
participation in this contest supports achievement of the History and Social
Science and the Visual Arts Standards of Learning. These posters could be created within the instructional day to
reflect history and social science standards:
USI.1, USII.1, CE.3 and visual arts standards: 6.2, 7.5, or 8.2.
The CVC would like to invite each school
division to submit entries to the contest. Contest informational packets will
be mailed to each school by January 9, 2004.
The deadline for submission is
February 16, 2004. Please mail or deliver the entries to the
Department of Education, Attention: Cheryle C. Gardner, principal specialist,
Fine Arts, Office of Middle Instructional Services, 101 North 14th
Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219. A
first-, second-, and a third-place entry will be selected and each of these
students will receive a certificate of recognition, a trophy, and a U.S.
Treasury Savings Bond.
