Principals' Memo #1011-13

Department of Education

July 30, 2013

TO:  Principals

FROM:  Linda M. Wallinger, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction

SUBJECT:  Upcoming Training Opportunities Offered by the Office of School Improvement

The purpose of this memorandum is to notify school divisions of training sessions that will be offered by the Office of School Improvement (OSI) this fall.  While school divisions have not yet been informed of the accreditation ratings or federal accountability status of their schools, it is hoped that advance notice of these training sessions will assist school division staff in planning.  Training sessions will be offered as described below.

Required Academic Review Training for Schools Not Fully Accredited

Office of School Improvement staff will conduct live, regional trainings on the academic review process for school divisions on October 22, 23, and 24, 2013.  These trainings should be attended by principals of schools identified as Accredited with Warning as well as central office key instructional personnel.  The trainings will be conducted at regional locations to be announced later and will be one day in length.  Please have staff mark their calendars for one of these dates.

Please reserve one of the dates below for a webinar on the focus of this year’s academic review process for schools Accredited with Warning and an overview of requirements.  Based on findings from the academic reviews held last year, the primary focus for this year’s reviews will be on the alignment of the intended and delivered curriculum.  The audience for the webinar will be principals and central office key instructional leaders who will attend academic review training in October.  The content of the webinar will be repeated and the series is not sequential.  The webinar will be offered on the following dates:

Required training for focus schools, priority schools, and schools not meeting federal annual measurable objectives (both Title I and non-Title I) during the 2013-2014 school year

Please reserve the date of Thursday, October 3, 2013, for a series of webinars intended to address the 2013-2014 requirements for each type of school described above.  Because attendance capacity for these webinars is limited, a strict limit of one telephone/online connection per school division per webinar is required.  The school division may gather as many personnel as desired in one location to take part in the webinars. If viewing at a different time is needed, the webinars below will be recorded.  Information regarding the recorded videos may be found at the following URL address after October 8, 2013:
