SUBJECT: | Availability of Funds for "Regional Program Planning Services" in Adult Education |
Under the provisions of the Adult Education Act (revised by Public Law 100-297 and Amendments) as amended by the National Literacy Act of 1991 (P.L. 102-73) and under Adult Literacy Services, 1995 Virginia Acts of Assembly, Chapter 853, set-aside funds will be available for providing regional program planning services which are designed to strengthen the Virginia Adult Literacy and Basic Education Programs for rural localities within a planning district. Eligible applicants for funds under these provisions include local educational agencies and/or public or private non-profit agencies, organizations, and institutions currently operating adult education programs funded by the Virginia Department of Education, Office of Adult Education, who have generated a minimum of 30,000 student hours in a rural area. (NOTE: For localities applying for both regional program planning services and regional specialist services, the minimum is 60,000 student hours in a rural area.) Any eligible recipient who wishes to apply for funds will be required to submit a proposal. Copies of the Request for Proposal (RFP) packet, including policies and procedures, guidelines, and an application form, may be obtained from the Office of Adult Education, Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2120. Proposals should be delivered no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 1996 to the Office of Adult Education located in the James Monroe Building, 101 N. 14th Street, 19th Floor, Richmond, VA 23219.
