SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 19
April 18, 1997 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | School Food Service Employee Recognition Day |
The staff members, who prepare and serve the school breakfasts and lunches in our schools, are dedicated to providing students with nutritious, appealing meals every school day. Their efforts may go unnoticed in the busy routine; however, without them the school day would be disrupted and many children would be hungry. The Virginia Department of Education joins the Virginia Department of Agriculture and the Virginia School Food Service Association in recognizing these members of our school community. May 14, 1997 is designated School Food Service Employee Recognition Day to encourage the employees to take pride in their contributions to students and to give them special recognition. The Department of Education encourages administrators, faculty, and students to show their appreciation on May 14. Students and staff previously have expressed their appreciation by writing letters or poems, holding receptions, sending flowers or cards, and submitting articles to the school newspaper. RTL/idl
