SUBJECT:
 		 Projections of March 31 Average Daily Membership
for School Years 1998-99 and 1999-2000

  
  The 1995 General Assembly eliminated the contract with the
  Center for Public Service which provided projections of
  average daily membership by school division.  The Department
  of Education is now responsible for providing these
  projections.

  Attached is a form requesting your projections of ADM for the
  1998-99 and 1999-2000 school years.  Please return this form
  to us by July 1,1997.  You may fax the information to us at
  (804) 225-2053.  This information will be used only by the
  Department and will not be distributed.  Therefore, there is
  no problem if this projection differs from other official
  estimates used in your local budget process.

  Since the projections developed through this process will help
  to determine the level of state aid appropriated in these
  years, please give us the best estimates you have. Please keep
  in mind that, if the estimates are too low, we will likely
  need to obtain additional funds; however, if no additional
  funds are available, proration may be required.  At the same
  time, we do not want to be in the position of having excess
  funds that could have been used to support other educational
  initiatives.
